Use your extra marriage moment to appreciate your spouse this week!
Popular culture often teaches us that love is a feeling. In romantic movies a loving relationship is cast as a state of being, in which you are either “in” or “out” of love.
God directs us to focus our attention on appreciation in Phillipians 4:8, “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
The choice to appreciate is a very powerful decision in marriage. God’s truth for us is that love is a choice. It is something that we pledge to do. When we are committed to a loving way, the result is a state of fondness and admiration with our partner, but it takes work!
The good news is that this work can be done in moments. When you think about your spouse this week, choose love. Follow the instructions of Phillipians 4:8 when thinking about your spouse.
In your extra moments, memorize the above scripture and pray. Ask God to help focus your mind on what is good and praiseworthy about your life partner.
In a short time, you will be on your way to a transformed marriage!
